Prior to this, balls were dependant on the size and shape of the pig&#8217;s bladder. The more irregular the bladder, the more unpredictable the behavior of the ball was when kicked.\u00a0However; it would not be <a href=\"https:\/\/soccerballworld.com\/when-was-soccer-invented\/\">until the twentieth century<\/a> until most balls were made with rubber bladders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1855, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/biography\/Charles-Goodyear\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Charles Goodyear<\/a> designed and built the first vulcanized rubber soccer balls (footballs), which is the <strong>world&#8217;s oldest football<\/strong>.\u00a0 The following picture shows the Charles Goodyear ball that was on display at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalsoccerhof.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Soccer Hall of Fame<\/a> which was located in Oneonta, NY, USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"346\" height=\"258\" src=\"https:\/\/soccerballworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Oldestsoccerball3.jpg\" alt=\"oldest soccer ball on display\" class=\"wp-image-525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/soccerballworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Oldestsoccerball3.jpg 346w, https:\/\/soccerballworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Oldestsoccerball3-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 346px) 100vw, 346px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Oldest Soccer Ball (Football) Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Designed and Built in 1855 by Charles Goodyear<\/li><li>Made of vulcanized rubber panels glued at the seams&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>Panels are shaped similar to today&#8217;s basketball<\/li><li>The ball was used for a game between the Oneida Football Club, the first organized team in the US, and a team of players from Boston Latin and Boston English Schools. The Oneida club was formed by Gerritt Smith-Miller and came from the students at Dixwell Latin School, where he was a student. Dixwell Latin merged with other schools over time and is a forbear to Noble &amp; Greenough, an independent school located in Dedham, MA. The game was played on Boston Common, where there is a monument to commemorate the game, on November 7, 1863.
