Amid the shocking news of his impending departure from Anfield at the end of this season, the bookies have named former Liverpool<\/a> midfield veteran, Xabi Alonso as the betting favorite to land in the dugout, ahead of the exit from German coach, Jurgen Klopp. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday morning, an official statement from Liverpool confirmed how long-time head coach, Klopp would be ending his eight-and-a-half-year stint as the manager at the club<\/a> come the end of this season, citing a lack of energy to continue in the role, \u201cagain and again and again\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently sitting top of the Premier League table, Klopp\u2019s Liverpool side find themselves five points clear from defending champions, Manchester City, however, Spanish coach, Pep Guardiola\u2019s side have a game-in-hand over the Reds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And with a massive change in terms of management and sporting director set to come in the new season, Klopp\u2019s successor at Liverpool is most likely to come in the form of former Spanish international, Xabi Alonso, who is the current betting favorite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Xabi Alonso favorite to replace Jurgen Klopp<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Leading German-side, Bayer Leverkusen from certain relegation last season, Alonso\u2019s side currently sit atop the Bundesliga, with betting odds in the region of -175 to replace Klopp ahead of next season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou think of all the managers he (Xabi Alonso) has worked under, Rafa Benitez at Liverpool, Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, and all of these great figures,\u201d Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports News<\/em>. \u201cAnd right now, with the job he is doing at Bayer Leverkusen he almost looks like the brightest young thing in European football, there is no doubt about that.\u201d

A former midfield holder for Liverpool, Alonso joined from Sociedad back in 2004, before going on to make 210 appearances in all competitions.
