We\u2019re coming to the end of what has been a long and somewhat confusing Premier League<\/a> season. As we get closer and closer to the final day, the title race and relegation spots have already been decided. All that\u2019s left is to determine who will compete in Europe, and there are a handful of teams left in the race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of them, Manchester City, will already know how much of a let down this campaign has been for their fans. While they\u2019re in the FA Cup final, they\u2019ve been poor in all other competitions they\u2019ve been in this season. By their standards, they\u2019ve really struggled to get things going, and Pep Guardiola needs to make sure that his side finish strong in the next few games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for Southampton, they are on track to be recognised as one of the worst teams in Premier League history. Their goal difference means that it\u2019s unlikely they\u2019ll officially have a worse record than Derby\u2019s infamous 2007\/08 run, but the fact that there\u2019s a good chance they\u2019ll end with just 11 points is a real statement on just how poorly they\u2019ve managed things since things got underway in August.<\/p>\n\n\n

So, it\u2019s been a disappointing nine months for these two clubs, but for very different reasons. Last May they were both celebrating and now, they\u2019ll both already be thinking about what kind of improvements need to be made in the summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Southampton really have nothing to lose this point and so long as they don\u2019t get completely and utterly blown out in their next few games, they should (statistically) wind up with a slightly better record than Derby, even if it\u2019s only on a technicality. This is one of the last times they\u2019ll play a top flight game for what we imagine will be quite a while, and they\u2019ll want to try and give their supporters something to cheer for.<\/p>\n\n\n

We believe the Saints will be a bit more aggressive than usual which is bound to catch City off guard, with the visitors likely already having one eye on the FA Cup final. Alas, Pep\u2019s men are better in pretty much every area of the field, so even if they fall behind, we can\u2019t imagine they\u2019re going to panic all too much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The good news for neutrals is that we do think this will be an entertaining match. Southampton\u2019s unpredictability combined with City\u2019s power in the final third should allow for a free-flowing fixture, even if that may seem hard to believe initially.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In terms of an official prediction, we\u2019d say that the hosts will start strong fading down the stretch. City will get the three points, and both managers will shake hands, knowing there\u2019s a good chance they\u2019ll never meet again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
