We’ll be seeing 32 clubs from six different confederations come together in manner that will determine who the best team in world football truly is. Some hate the new style of doing this and others love it, but regardless of which camp you fall into, there’s no denying that this fills the void created by a lack of men’s international football this summer.

The manner in which teams were able to qualify also caused some controversy, but what we do know is this: some of the biggest players and biggest teams in the game will head to the United States in an attempt to write their name into the history books. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what promises to be an intriguing clash between Palmeiras and Porto.

Palmeiras are one of the most historic clubs within the landscape of Brazilian football and although there are a couple different teams you could say that for, the expectation is that they could do better than a lot of people suspect in this competition. They’ll have to dig deep, but we anticipate that they’ll be deemed one of the surprise packages when it’s all said and done.

On the flip side, you’ve got Porto – one of the biggest clubs in Portugal and easily one of the most successful. Their historic 2004 Champions League triumph may have happened over two decades ago, but that doesn’t mean the lasting impact isn’t still there for all to see and feel. It feels right that they’re in this competition, and we’re excited to see how they perform.

So whether you’re interested in vulkan vegas or you just want to know a little bit more about this game, we’re here to break down what we think is going to happen when these teams collide.

We’re just going to say this straight away: we can’t imagine this is going to be the most entertaining game of football you’ve ever seen. In fact, it may well be quite slow, and it may take a moment of magic in order for a breakthrough to happen. Thankfully, there will be plenty of quality on the pitch, so we don’t expect this to be goalless.

Porto are the more experienced side when it comes to taking on high quality opposition but Palmeiras are stubborn, and we think that side of them will really shine through in this game. It’ll be a bit of a back and forth affair and we actually think it’ll probably come down to the last 10 minutes or so of the game, with the boys from Portugal finally unlocking Palmeiras at the back to score the winner.

Moving forward, though, expect both of these teams to be involved in some tense, tight games of football, especially given that they’re part of a group that we’d argue is wide open for the taking. Hopefully, they’re both able to live up to the hype we’re giving them.

Official prediction: Palmeiras 0-1 Porto

It’s almost time for the FIFA Club World Cup and this year, the competition has taken on an entirely new format.
